The president of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, «a great friend of Africa»

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died yesterday, on the 8th of September 2022, at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. Since, Leaders from around the world have paid tribute to her life and long service. Among us, Ali Bongo Ondimba, the president of Gabon, a country that has become a member of the Commonwealth this year.

« Tonight, the Commonwealth family is mourning Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was a great friend of Africa and Africa affectionated her in return. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the British people, to her son, my friend His Majesty King Charles III and family », has written Ali Bongo Ondimba last night on his Twitter account and his Facebook page.

Gabon joined the Commonwealth on the 25th of June 2022 during its summit in Kigali, becoming the latest nation with no historic ties to Britain to enter the English-speaking club then headed by Queen Elizabeth II.
