The meeting on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi between President Ali Bongo Ondimba and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyane, who will become President of the United Arab Emirates in 2022, was « rich and constructive ».

The Gabonese leader assured, on his social networks, that «relations between Gabon and the United Arab Emirates will be strengthened on the economic level (such as transport and agro-industry, editor’s note) and renewable energy.»

In conclusion, the Gabonese head of state used an unusual formula. «Everywhere, our country is respected and considered.»

«We have felt for some years that Gabon is not just another African country. It is a country that really counts and whose partnership is particularly sought after,» says a diplomat.

Gabon currently holds the presidency of the UN Security Council. On the occasion of the COP 27, it is one of the most expected countries. As a country whose territory is 88% covered by the equatorial forest, the second green lung of the planet, Gabon is at the forefront in the fight against global warming. It is also innovating, as shown by the two-stage marketing of some 187 million carbon credits. On 25 June, Gabon, a French-speaking country, joined the Commonwealth, thus opening the doors to the Anglo-Saxon world.
