To compete in his first race on the African continent, the four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion in athletics in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres disciplines has chosen Gabon. The Somali-born Briton will be at the start of the « Port-Gentil 10km », reputed to be « the fastest race in Africa », on Saturday 8 April.

Sir Mo Farah (he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II) is considered « the greatest British athlete of all time ». His record of achievement is staggering: six-time world champion and four-time Olympic track and field champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 km disciplines.

13,000 runners will take part in the 5th edition of the « 10 km of Port-Gentil » which will be run this Saturday 8 April in the capital of Ogooué-Maritime. Nicknamed the « fastest race in Africa », it is the only one on the continent to have received the « Gold » label from the World Athletics (formerly the International Federation of Athletics).

To further enhance the prestige of this race, the start will be given by the Gabonese President himself, Ali Bongo Ondimba.
